Is expensive fuel an even bigger trucking concern than driver availability, driver retention, or driver compensation? The American Transportation Research Institute wants to know.
ATRI was released this week his annual survey on the most pressing issues facing the trucking industry.
The 2023 Top Industry Issues Survey will be open until Sept. 29, according to ATRI, the research arm of the American Trucking Associations.
The research results will be revealed in a presentation on October 14 at the 2023 ATA Management Conference & Exhibition in Austin, Texas.
Last year’s survey marked a major upheaval in the ranking of trucking’s top concerns. After ranking the driver shortage at the top for five consecutive years, respondents said high fuel costs were the industry’s biggest problem in 2022.
The annual survey is critical to the industry’s understanding of the challenges facing the nation’s supply chain, Dan Van Alstine, ATA and Ruan Transportation Management Systems president and COO, said in a statement.
“ATRI’s survey provides an opportunity for thousands of trucking professionals, from drivers to executives, to weigh in on the most important issues affecting transportation and collectively decide on the best strategies to address each,” said Van Alstine. .
Because the survey asks respondents to identify their role in the industry, ATRI also publishes separate lists of drivers’ and carriers’ top concerns. In the 2022 survey, drivers chose truck parking as their top concern for the third year in a row, while driver issues remained carriers’ top concerns.
Ken Duncan, if America’s Road Team Leader who drives for Walmart Transportation, encouraged fellow drivers to fill out the survey in a statement.
“Whether your main issue is lorry parking, driver compensation, booking, traffic congestion or something else, it only takes a few minutes to make your voice heard and collectively inform the industry about what drivers care about most” , Duncan said. .
