Nikola produced 43 fuel cell electric trucks in the first quarter, according to a press release.
That’s 12% to 14% of its annual goal of delivering 300 to 350 such trucks this year.
It was not immediately clear how the company planned to increase production to meet the target.
“All trucks sold wholesale to Nikola dealers are for end customers,” the company said in the release. Forty trucks were wholesaled and three remaining vehicles have already been sold, according to Nikolas.
In Q4 Nikolas 42 were produced fuel cell electric trucks and delivered 35 to dealers.
The OEM is meanwhile developing a hydrogen refueling network, and in February, the company opened a hydrogen refueling station in Ontario, California. “Nine are scheduled to take effect by the close of the second quarter,” the company previously said.
The company envisions developing a heavy-duty “hydrogen highway” with these stations.
In a LinkedIn post earlier this year, CEO and President said Steve Girsky 2024 will be a year of transformation not only for Nikolas but also for the industry.
