The Pilot Company named Gary Hoogeveen as president of Pilot Energyaccording to an announcement last week.
In his role, Hoogeveen oversees Pilot’s integrated fuel supply chain, including upstream infrastructure and asset management, business development, fuel procurement, logistics and transportation. He will also lead Pilot’s continued development of electric and alternative energy solutions, which includes its aggressive EV charging plan.
“I have known Gary for a long time, and he is an experienced and talented leader who will bring a trusted voice and perspective to an important part of our business,” Pilot CEO Adam Wright said in the release. “Our energy team will continue to be fundamental to our ability to reliably serve customers and navigate the alternative fuel transition.”
Hoogeveen has held several leadership positions at Pilot’s parent company, Berkshire Hathaway, over the past two decades. Most recently, he spent the past 10 years as President and CEO of Rocky Mountain Power, an electric utility company under Berkshire Hathaway’s PacifiCorp brand.
Prior to that, he spent four years as president of Kern River Gas Transmission Company, which operates an interstate natural gas pipeline through Wyoming, Utah, Nevada and California.
“As a leader in energy, Pilot understands that we have a responsibility to help move the industry forward while continuing to optimize traditional fuel supply, which is the core of our business,” Hoogeveen said in the release.
Pilot has brought in several new executives over the past year as it continues to set significant goals within its framework New Horizons $1 billion store renovation initiative and EV charging program. In addition to Hoogeveen, those changes included naming Wright as CEO, Joe Lillo as CFO, Jamie Landis as SVP of business planning and execution, and Shannon Sturgil as SVP of alternative fuels.
Headquartered in Knoxville, Tennessee, Pilot operates more than 870 travel centers in 44 states and six Canadian provinces. The company operates the third largest fleet of fuel tankers in North America and supplies approximately 14 billion gallons of fuel annually.
