LANDOVER, MARYLAND — Some of the drivers based at XPO’s new truck terminal just off Route 50 and the Capital Beltway were busy during Thursday’s ribbon cutting for the former Yellow Corp. facility. which reopened.
They had already left to pick up and deliver customer loads for the day, COO Dave Bates told attendees.
“But we’ll have them gourmet, loaded baked potatoes when they get back tonight from the food truck,” he promised.
The 20,000-square-foot Landover facility opened its 36 loading dock doors ahead of schedule to ease shipping delays in the area following the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, an XPO spokesman said.
The new terminal, a few miles north of Washington Governors Stadium and 30 miles southwest of Baltimore, has reduced travel times for customers in the region and expanded capacity to meet growing freight demand.
“It’s a great facility for us to have the access we have in the Washington, D.C. and Baltimore metro areas,” said Bates.
The site is one of three XPOs opened this week and six it has brought online so far this year. The carrier acquired more than two dozen properties for $870 million in Yellow’s bankruptcy estate auction.
A 36,000-square-foot terminal in Las Vegas, positioning XPO to grow its trade show service in the market, is the largest of the three this week. The third is on five acres of land in Sherman, Texas, near Dallas-Fort Worth.
At the ribbon-cutting event in Maryland, East Division President Tim Staroba and Service Center Manager Steve Zapata joined Bates in thanking the drivers and dockworkers who helped clean up the terminal.
“Thank you for helping make the transition to this new service center seamless,” said Zapata.

XPO plans to open all 28 terminals it acquired from Yellow by the end of the first quarter of 2025, increasing its network by 2,000 doors.
As the top bidder in last year’s bankruptcy auction, XPO is racing with competitors such as Estes Express Lines and Saia to incorporate the additional capacity into their networks.
