Webb Estes, president and COO of his family’s company, told Trucking Dive in an interview that LTL companies like Estes Express Lines aren’t feeling the squeeze they would because of Yellow Corp.’s ability to limit bankruptcy.
“We’re doing well,” Estes said, describing the private carrier’s performance. “We’re up.”
Then the company president paused to share a thought that’s clearly weighing on his — and other trucking executives’ — minds.
“Can I say that my goal is to have less weather in 2024?” he pondered. “I’m not good at it right now.”
Winter weather is such a persistent disruptor to key performance indicators, Estes said, that “I usually don’t even use the January and February numbers.”
“They are such squirrels,” he said.
